This is a very good sign for the new year. 2022 is looking brighter.
happy new year
And not a moment too soon.
Good riddance and may you rot in hell.
I hope this didn’t post twice. Apologies for the length.
Letter I sent to her 11 months ago. I hope it served as one of a hundred thousand plus painful splinters in her brain.
Dear Mrs. Gonzalez:
I write to you today because I have been informed that you led the way in gutting and amending Senate Bill 384.
I understand that you are placed under much scrutiny, especially when it comes to re-election periods. I also know that you are pressured by special interest groups, in particular in this matter lobbyists representing specifically law enforcement.
I urge you to read the enclosed five page story written “by a daughter seeking kindness”. It is a first hand example that these registration laws do little to protect anyone. They actually do more in harming children as this story illuminates.
In fact, numerous empirical studies have shown that public notification actually INCREASES recidivism. Perhaps this is what your law enforcement friends prefer.
Please refer to the research study “Frightening and High”: The Supreme Court’s Crucial Mistake About Sex Statistics, 2015, by Ira Mark and Tara Ellman. Here is an excerpt from that research paper:
The California Corrections Department recently examined cases of sex offender registrants who are returned to prison, and found that in 92 percent of the cases the reason was a parole violation, which is generally something that is not a crime for anyone who is not on parole-things like going to a bar or visiting a friend who’s also an ex-felon. Less than 1 percent of those re-incarcerated had committed a new sex offense.
Here is another excerpt from a research paper titled “Not Always a Sexual Offender” by R. Karl Hansen:
There is strong evidence that a) there is wide variability in recidivism risk for
individuals with a history of sexual crime, b) risk predictably declines over time, and c)
risk can be very low – so low, in fact, that it becomes indistinguishable from the rate of
spontaneous sexual offenses for individuals with no history of sexual crime but who have
a history of nonsexual crime. These findings have clear implications for constructing
effective public protection policies for sexual offenders.
I suppose if I was in your shoes it would be political suicide to provide some sort of avenue for your “lifers” to be removed from the registry. However, the research is clear. If a registrant remains crime free after release for approximately 17 years or more, he or she poses no more risk of committing a sexual offense than yourself or others within the community.
Thus, the tiering scheme passed via Senate Bill 384 is quite wide of the mark. No doubt it would be a daunting task to individually assess over 100,000 registrants, if not impossible based on your resources. However, legislation could be added or amended where a registrant who has no further record of crime and has actually proven to be a positive member of his community and society should be given the ability to be assessed in a hearing within our court system and subsequent relief to register based on the facts.. In particular, if the registrant has been in the community over a vast amount of time such as 25 or 30 years crime free.
Am I a registrant? Yes. I was falsely accused by a newly minted ex girlfriend. She was angry at me for not having the ability to pay her $3000 to avoid eviction. She also suffers from borderline personality disorder. Most of these circumstances were lied about by my ex in trial or suppressed by a maniacal prosecutor. The ultimate disposition was acquittal/dismissal. California PC 290 ignores such a process where any underlying conviction has been set aside and dismissed though, a vivid example that there is little to no risk associated with defendants who earned this relief.
Instead, SB 384 stares back at a penal code, dismissed or not, without the actual facts of the matter. If you read the penal code wording alone without the rest much distain would be the default to the lie.
The actual truth is that I’m innocent. I’m also a cum laude graduate of my alma mater, a high school honor graduate, a U.S. Army Veteran, a registered voter, been summoned for jury duty, a member of a most prestigious and elite professional organization, a keynote speaker for many community organizations such as Rotary Club and married to a beautiful and caring woman who knows this registration nonsense is malarkey.
In final, I don’t expect a response from you. If I would obtain a response I would be elated and appreciative. I know many people are asking for your time.
Please consider a sensible alternative. You and your peers have continued to kick the can down the road for many of your constituents. If they pose no risk, give them an avenue to regain their life back, even if it’s only a few years prior to them passing away.
Respectfully,
C J
Hmm, why would she work so hard to get elected just last year and then resign? She has always been very active in the labor activities of minorities. No, I think Lorena got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and her resignation was part of the conditions to keep it hush hush.
I hope the door hit her Fanny. She sounded like a horrible legislator.
I’m glad to see her go. She’s among the worst.
So much of this registry was not well thought out and an eye sore. Views good or bad. If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen or is candid camera the justice league in reruns.
All this means to me is that it is one less obstacle for us to chip away the Registry. I am happy to hear this. Good news indeed!
LOL Lorena Gonzalez is a big joke. All she is is an ineffective big loud mouth who really got nothing worthy passed as a so-called “effective legislator.” On the other hand, it’s really sad how the mainstream media is completely complacent in peddling this type of propaganda to the public. We all know Lorena got nothing worthy done, but the media sells her as the greatest politician of all time.
Again, I’m starting to think the fake news media is the REAL enemy of the people. Why do people still trust the news, after all the bullshit they feed us?
